audio CharlotteMoorman1970 sound 2004-09-09 16:57:39 Charlotte Moorman, Harvey Matusow Harvey Matusow interviewed Charlotte Moorman in New York where she talks about the history of her Festival of Avant-Garde Arts. This talk was recorded in 1970. Cellist Charlotte Moorman became famous in NYC in the 60's for playing avant-garde music, occasionally in the nude. She was also closely associated with Nam Jun Paik, who wrote many works for her, including the famous one where she wears a bra made up of two mini-TVs. She had a wonderful Southern accent and made quite a presence on stage. She performed at many Fluxus events in NYC in the 60's. Harvey Matusow, on the other hand, was a charlatan, superb con man, sometimes art dealer and new music producer. He is perhaps more famous for his dealings with the McCarthy House Un-American Hearings in the 50's (see his book False Witness) for which he spent some time in jail. As you could expect, this interview is very very interesting. Both Charlotte and Harvey are now deceased.
